Mountain Grass Unit Dallas reviews
Not the normal Ryman experience
I expected something along those lines given the show name of "American Poet", but it was not the normal Ryman Auditorium show that tends to a more acoustic/personal performance by musicians. Most of his comments during the show seemed pre-planned, and he ended most songs by striking a very contrived/stereotypical rock pose. Mountain Grass Unit delivered a good show, but it all seemed very, very scripted, beginning with a 30-minute long biography video that emphasized how much Mountain Grass Unit hates performing and how he never intended to become a musician. It was over when the show was over - no coming back for an encore or even a final bow. He just came across as an egomaniac, laughing all the way to the bank, which was probably a very profitable trip, given that the souvenir stand was selling $40 t-shirts, $60 sweatshirts, and $20 coffee cups. I had a mixed opinion of this concert.
